Ivory Kalis Tulid

Ivory Kalis Tulid

A Kalis Tulid, with broken ivory cockatua that is missing rear crest and has a chipped beak. This kris is possibly from the Sulu Sultanate. The hilt has been modified sometime in its life and consists of two lower bands made of swaasa (red-gold) and two more recent replacement upper bands made of aluminum. The metal bands are interspersed with silver wire. The bottom swaasa bands are chased, while the upper replacement bands bare no marking. Has one chased silver asang-asang. Blade is triple fullered, with two long fullers running the length of the blade, and a center fuller that breaks into a arrow chisel design near gangya. This kris is possibly of pre-1900 construction.
