Moro armor came in the form of a shirt that consisted of either water buffalo horn or brass plates linked together by chain maille and/or hide. These shirts tended to be quite large and heavy weighing anywhere between 20 and 25 pounds with lengths that often came well to the knee of the wearer. Leg protectants were generally not used. Moro helmets generally were made of cast brass and had a distinct Spanish look. In actuality some helmets are indeed the helms of fallen Spanish soldiers that were then used and preserved by the Moro victors. It mus be noted that armor was mainly reserved for only the rich while most fighters went to battle in normal daily attire. |
