Belize may be a small country but she isn't lacking for a selection of Crocs.

American Crocodiles ( Crocodylus acutus ).  With luck you will see these crocodiles in their natural habitat. You are likely to see crocs sunning themselves or swimming in Fresh Water Creek.  Additionally, you will see crocodile nests and possibly baby crocodiles. Unlike the Australian and African Crocodiles, the American Crocodile eats mostly fish and is very timid--don't worry, you're not in his food chain. When approached while sunning on the shore, they run for the safety of the water and submerge.  On request and with prior arrangements we may conduct a 'Crocodile Hunt' where we slowly motor the creek and the lagoon by flashlight looking for the red glow of crocodile eyes.

Belize also has the largest population in the world of West Indian manatees. They are frequently seen in Freshwater Creek and in the lagoon.

This ecoregion also overlaps with the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve system--the second largest barrier reef in the world (after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia). The cayes here (pronounced "keys").

We set in 100 acres of, pristine, jungle located outside of the Village of Silkegrass, approximately a 30 minute drive from Hopkins Village. CROC O’ DILE ISLE was designed as a refuge for the American Salt Water Crocodile. The American Saltie has a survival rate of less than 2%. This fine animal is in danger of extinction in Central America; however is flourishing in the USA thanks to a protected area in Florida. We are proud to be a part of the Saltie’s survival.

The site, for CROC O’ DILE ISLE was selected because of its remote tranquility and lack of human habitat. The native wildlife and birds have not been disturbed. We have over sixty species of birds at the reserve and, in fact, have been highly recommended in a new publication of “Birds of Belize”. If you are young (or not so young) we have a tour designed just for you and your family!!
