How the Group Works

The group will follow guidelines adapted from 12-step groups, and “Celebrate Recovery” groups.  These include the following:

#1   There is no formal leader.  We will have a rotating group facilitator for each meeting.

#2   Anonymity and Confidentiality.   Remember “who you see here, what is said here, when you leave here, let it stay here.”  We want to make this a safe place for everyone.

#3   All group participants are invited to share at each meeting.  Sharing is voluntary.  A person may pass if he or she does not want to share.  The sharing time is limited to 3-5 minutes for each person.  If the group is small, and there is extra time, people may have a second opportunity to share.

#4  When you share, try to focus on your own thoughts, beliefs, feelings and actions.  You can share about the past, but you should try to relate this to how it is affecting you in the here and now.

#5  There is to be no cross-talk, advice giving, or interruptions when people are sharing.

#6  Group members should try to avoid offensive language or a hostile tone in order to foster a safe environment.

#7  There will be a short informal discussion after each meeting for those who are interested, to discuss possible ideas and improvements for the group.   All participants are invited to give their feedback.  This is your group!
