MAKING MONEY OR BEING MONEY
From "In His Steps",
A CouplesForChrist Scripture and Reflections Journal
Those who truly fear the Lord obey Him. Obedience to God's will is easy if it does not come in conflict with our worldly desires
or material longings. But if it does, what then?
While working for a relatively new and modest company, I received another job offer that was difficult to resist. The monetary
compensation was more than twice what I was earning and the prestige of the position would build up my social stature. But
the price of these perks would be extensive traveling and working nights and even weekends. I would be kept away from my husband
and three young children for long periods of time. But then again, the new job would be able to provide for their needs and
more. Material comfort or maternal duty? I could not make that difficult choice alone. So I sought God's will in prayer and
promised to simply obey Him. And indeed, He revealed His will quite clearly. And so, at a time when our family was in deep
financial trouble, and against the advice of family and friends, I obeyed. I rejected the job offer.
Today, I'm still working for the same company. My employers allow me to work at home so I am able to watch my children. And
without my asking them, they have promised to increase my salary and other benefits. The Lord gave me the best of both worlds.
What does it mean to obey the Lord? For me, it means seeking His divine and perfect will for you. And if you obey Him at all
costs and above all else, you will surely be blessed. --
