Who We Are

Be-Boppin' Babes is an East Bay dance service teaching ballroom dancing to lesbians and bi women of all ages and ethnicities.  Valery Breeze and Eva Pettersson began teaching classes in East Coast Swing, Fox Trot and Cha Cha in 1994.  We have since added classes in Salsa, Lindy,Waltz, Rhumba, and Argentine Tango. You can get  private lessons  and Be-Boppin'Babes can also teach at your special events, such as a birthday party or commitment ceremony.

Noticing that there were Country Western and Square Dance classes specifically for lesbians, but no ballroom, we decided the time was right for another form of partner dancing.  When twenty-five women showed up for their first class, we knew we were providing an exciting new service to the lesbian community.

We have appeared as special guest performers at BACW's 1996 Puttin' On the Ritz Ball and have taught  classes at the Montclair Women's Cultural Arts Club in Oakland.  Special classes or workshops in other communities can be arranged with advance notice.
 
 
 

Valery Breeze: Valeri was formerly a professional dancer and teacher with diverse experience in a variety of dance
forms.  She missed the romantic, close dancing of the Fifties. For years lesbian friends kept asking her to teach them these
dances.  Finally-- she did! Valeri passed away Thursday November 21, 2002 after many years of fighting a fatal illness called amyloidoses.
 
 

Eva Pettersson:   I am a music teacher who decided to add dancing to my repertoire.  I have a passion for music and dancing is a joyful expression of that.  I also love teaching, so that makes a great combo.
