Organization Purpose
The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service
organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better
education for children.
There are 165,000 members of DAR internationally; including 3,000 chapters in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. as
well as chapters in Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom More
than 850,000 women have joined the DAR since it was founded.
