Professional Experience
4ward Sciences Incorporated, 2008-present
Consultant
- Developed web site using Google Maps API that allows state highway
department personnel to post messages to electronic highway signs, using
HTML, JavaScript, ASP, SQL, XML, and AJAX.
CACI - San Diego CA, 1999-2007
Principal Engineer
- Used Opnet, C, and C++.NET to model network performance of a
Mil-STD-1553/Link-16 military communications system to be deployed in Taiwan.
- Reviewed and enhanced a software package in C++, running on UNIX,
implementing TCP/IP and UDP communications. Combined data from
multiple surveillance systems to produce an integrated air traffic control picture.
Achieved substantial increase in tracks that stayed with their targets.
- Added new analysis capability to VC++/MFC GUI tool that provides visibility
into the operation of a runway incursion reduction system. Performance enhancement
enabled it to run one hundred times faster than previous version.
QUALCOMM Incorporated - San Diego CA, 1996-1999
Software Engineer
- Developed Object Oriented software tool with X/Motif UI, POSIX threads,
and Perl scripts to test RS-232 digital interface to satellite antenna.
System testers used this tool to isolate a problem within four hours of commissioning.
- Implemented C++ and VxWorks embedded software module
to verify the correct frequency output of a modulator card.
- Designed network interface for telemetry receiver system for
communications satellites.
BIOSYM Technologies - San Diego CA, 1992-1995
Scientific Programmer
- Designed methodology and implemented software in C that calculates stress-strain
behavior for periodic systems with nonorthogonal unit cells.
- Developed symbolic manipulator package in C that dramatically increased
the flexibility of molecular simulation software package.
University of Utah - Salt Lake City UT, 1987-1992
Research Assistant
- Devised an algorithm for performing quantum chemical calculations on
systems with high symmetry, which improved the quality of the results for
these systems.
- Implemented two-electron integral transformation yielding two to ten
times faster performance for quantum mechanical simulations.
Furman University - Greenville SC, 1984-1986
Research Assistant
- Developed electron spin resonance (ESR) simulation package which
facilitated interpretation, analysis, and understanding of ESR spectra.
