I started playing the violin in September 1974, when I was in the fifth grade. I have been playing for all but 4 years of the time that has passed since then, with a 1.5 year break in graduate school, and a 2.5 year break after moving to San Diego.
I own two violins, both replicas of Josef Guanerius. One was a hand-me-down from my father; the other was purchased for me by my parents when I was in the ninth grade.
I presently play in the La Jolla Symphony Orchestra, which is affiliated with the University of California at San Diego. Orchestras I have played with in the past include the Murray Symphony Orchestra (Salt Lake City UT), the Furman University Symphony Orchestra (Greenville SC), and various school and youth orchestras before that.
The composers whose works I have played the most are Bach, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Beethoven, Handel, Vivaldi, and Rimsky-Korsakoff. Others which I have enjoyed greatly are Schubert, Rossini, Brahms, Sibelius, Copland, Haydn, Glinka, Delibes, Rachmaninoff, and Bizet.
I do not officially have a favorite composer, but I find myself a bit partial to Tchaikovsky.
