about Jessica Constable



Jessica Constable (voice, composition) was born in Bristol, U.K. in 1966 and has been composing, improvising and performing music since childhood. She is exceedingly proud of having her first ever song recorded by singer Julie Tippetts (formerly Julie Driscoll) on her album "Sunset Glow" (Utopia 1973). After trying out various instruments, acting, and fine art she finally dedicated hesrself to singing in 1990, when she moved to France. Her passion and originality have led her to work with musicians and artists of all disciplines including "Le Theatre 2 l'Acte" dir. Michel Mathieu, Cie "Klassmvte" (choreography Pascal Delhay), Groupe Umber Humber (choreography Patricia Ferarra ), "Massacre Privé with Eric Pailhé.

Her recent and ongoing musical projects include:

*** Performances of a concerto written especially for her by Armenian composer Anahit Simonian ("Légendes Oubliés" - Concerto for Voice, Duduk and Symphony Orchestra") at the Musical Olympus Festival in St Petersburg, Russia. Simonian has also composed a cycle of songs in Armenian for her and an album is to be recorded this winter, with Araik Bahtikian (duduk), Emmanuel Codjia (guitar), Felix Simonian (cello) and David Aknin (drums).

*** American (Vision Festival NY 2001) and European (2001, 2002, 2003) concerts with Ellery Eskelin, Andrea Parkins and Jim Black. They will be recording an album in Jan 2004 with Marc Ribot and Melvin Gibbs, with intended release in autumn 2004. (Hathut)

*** A series of suites for voice and prepared piano with her long-time collaborator, pianist Philippe Gelda. Plus an album "Cool Things for Voice and Organ" (unsigned to the astonishment of all).

*** Concerts and album with experimental french rock band "Le Crepuscule" (2002/2003) led by Laurent Bardainne (sax), also with Nicolas Villebrun (guitar), Arnaud Roulin (keys), Vincent Taeger (drums) album "Le Crepuscule des Dinosaurs"( Barnabé 2003)

*** She is involved in various experimental electronic music projects as well as french renaissance and medieval song, music for theatre and dance and leads vocal improvisation workshops.
