The Sabbat Cainites of the City There were once two open Sabbat Kindred in St. Louis -- although they always referred to themselves as Cainites, not Kindred. They became trapped in the Harrisburg Showcase Elysium in 1999, when the claimed sanctuary after being driven there by an Anarch attack. The two Cainites -- Hans Jensen and Mary Might -- were the remnants of a larger, nomadic pack that was traveling from New York to Mexico City that took a detour in St. Louis -- only to encounter a group of Anarchs and get into a skirmish. Exactly why their pack was traveling through St. Louis on it's way to Mexico City remained a mystery; the two Sabbat never volunteered the details, even going so far as not reveal the name of the old pack, and instead referred to themselves as the "Lost Souls" pack. Instead, Hans and Mary took great delight in essentially taking over the Harrisburg Showcase Elysium; they ghouled the gallery manager, took up residence in an apartment in the Gallery itself, and even put some of Mary Might's artworks on display. The two Sabbat also relished helping the Keeper of Elysium host events at the Harrisburg Showcase, and did their utmost best to make sure that people "played by the rules" when in Elysium -- as those rules kept the two Sabbat alive, as long as they didn't leave that particular Elysium. In fact, Hans and Mary were so fanatical about not leaving the Elysium that many Kindred in St. Louis wondered how the two Sabbat managed to sustain themselves without hunting. Towards the beginning of August of 2005, neither Hans nor Mary were seen at the Harrisburg Showcase any more, nor was their ghoul (the gallery's business manager) anywhere to be found. A third member of the Sabbat, Mikhael Romanov, came to St. Louis towards the beginning of 2005, but unlike Hans and Mary, he hid he involvement in the Sabbat sect, as he was apparently attempting to "defect" from the Sabbat. When his deception was discovered, he was publicly punished by the Sheriff for lying to her, and given the opportunity to join the Camarilla, which he did. Therefore, given the conversion of Mikhael and the disappearance of Hans and Mary, common wisdom says that there are currently no members of the Sabbat in St. Louis -- but the truly paranoid mind always suspects something.... |
