Metamorphoses: St. Louis

A Mixed Bag of Oddities

This is all stuff that we would like to share with you. But, they aren't links, they aren't rules, they're certainly don't have anything to do with character creation or the history of the city. They're just random opinion pieces -- some of which we wrote, some of which we found online. A good number of these pieces were generated for other LARPs the Head Storyteller ran in the past (and will open links to those pages). Just realize that while these things are still good reading (we think), they don't always apply to this particular LARP. They're just amusing moments of philosophy, for the most part.

Read and enjoy!

"How Does It Feel?", is a piece adapted from a much longer piece written by Peter Woodworth (the author of The Shining Host, the LARP rules for Changeling: The Dreaming and the new Mind's Eye Theatre Line Developer) which was published in Issue #8 of the now-defunct Mind's Eye Theatre Journal. It was written to help players get an idea on just what it's like to be a supernatural being, to explain, well, how things felt. We have just reproduced the Kindred-specific elements of this piece here, and it's still a very fine read, we think.

Some Things To Think About and Keep In Mind When Making Your Character is a pretty straightforward piece. I found a couple of "questions for your character" on line, and wanted to share them with you. You don't have to know the answers, immediately, but.... Think about them, and the answers just might help you make a better character (or at least a character that's easier for you to connect with).

A Storyteller Talks to Their Players: is some advice from a Storyteller to their players. It's pretty good stuff, and makes for interesting reading (and interesting role-playing, when it's applied). The authorship and origins of this piece are unknown. If you know who wrote this, please let me know. Credit where credit is due and all that.

Back in NYC, there was a LARP known as Seasons of Darkness, run by a gentleman named Nick Fortugno. His LARP ran for around five (maybe six) years and showed a lot of people what a well-designed LARP with a dedicated player base could be like. I played in a few sessions of the game, and while I might have disagreed with Nick on a number of non-essential things, I have to admit he knew how to run a game. He wrote a piece called Storytelling and Player Roles in Live-Action Gaming and gave it to his players shortly after his game began, and I know of a few GMs who included it in their rule packets for players to read. I've posted it here -- I think it's good reading, and I hope you do as well.

Back in the previous LARP I ran -- Chicago Reborn -- there was a Malkavian named Norton Eastwick who was well liked and respected by most everyone in the city. Norton also served as one of the Deputies in town, but eventually Norton's player (Ian Zeilstra) decided to pull Norton out and begin a new character, but before leaving town in-character, Ian wrote up Norton Eastwick's Guide to Taking Action, which is filled with some advice and reflections on how he saw things being done in that game. I've even had a few people in other LARPs out there ask me if they could distribute it to their game, so who knows -- it might be interesting to read, no?

A gentleman by the name of James Brown (no, not that James Brown) wrote A Guide to Being A Vampire back in 1997. It has withstood the test of time, and is still pretty applicable.... Enjoy!

Jason Corely's "Stupid" LARP Tricks:

Jason Corely wrote a number of pieces some time ago concerning the various Camarilla Clans and little "tricks" to help people play them, well, differently. He never did get around to writing up tricks for the other Clans and Bloodlines, but that's okay -- we like these tricks just as they are.

Clan Brujah
Clan Gangrel
Please Note: Jason Corely lost his own "Stupid LARP Tricks for Clan Gangrel" some time ago, back in mists of time. The LARP tricks presented here are of unknown authorship and origins, but still pretty cool.
Clan Malkavian
Some Not-So Stupid LARP Tricks for Clan Malkavian
Clan Nosferatu
Clan Toreador
Clan Tremere
Clan Ventrue

Speaking of "Stupid Tricks for Clans", a friend of the Head Storyteller found A Ventrue's Guide to Etiquette online and forwarded it to him. The guide was originally titled "Jo's Etiquette (complete with naff WW style quotes)," and no other author information is known. Still, it's an amusing read.

Similarly, as long as we're talking about ways to make your character different, we present A Guide to Non-Traditional Toreadors, a small piece about our favorite artistic clan. Sadly, someone removed the authorship from this piece when we found it. It was signed "Jen," so that's all we know about it's author. If you any more, please let us know. Thanks!

In The Company Of Rats is a piece, similar to the "Guide to Non-Traditional Toreadors," but dealing with the Nosferatu, of course. Alas, the bulk of the identifying tags were removed when we came across it. It was written by a woman named "Wendi." Again, if you know anything more about this piece, let us know so we can credit it. Thanks!

In the same vein as the Toreador and Nosferatu pieces above, The Ambassadors of Whup is a small piece about the Brujah. The authorship of this piece is unknown. As always, let us know if you know anything about it, so we can credit it properly.

John Brownlee wrote The Guide to Playing Tremere guide after playing Tremere for some time. It's chock full of his ideas regarding the Clan. Read and enjoy. We'll warn you, however, it is a little long.... But good!

After White Wolf released the book, The Prince's Primer, Jason Corely felt obligated to make some commentary. He effectively wrote a short screed, calling it The Real Prince's Primer, and included examples -- from the Reign of President Nixon, the closest thing to a Prince most Americans every experienced.... Read it and be amazed at the wisdom therein....
