Recent Events (i.e., in the Year 2000) in New York City You Should Know About
- On October 30th, Mr. Sajan Kalra murdered his wife, Rama. He murdered her by driving a wooden stake (in actuality a broken broomstick) into her heart. Mr. Kalra had stuffed his wife's mouth full of garlic, sewn it shut and was in the process of beheading her when police arrived on the scene and took him into custody. Mr. Kalra pleaded not guilty, claiming that his wife was a vampire and he was saving others from a fate worse than death. Mr. Kalra is currently in custody of the NYPD Psychiatric Division, held without bail, awaiting trial.
- On September 18th, the night sky over New York City was lit up as if by an aurora borealis. Primogen Galena Karinskaya of Clan Tremere has apologized to Prince de Luca for this event, stating that it was the result of a Thamturgical experiment that went bad. It seems that several Tremere were working on a research project, attempting to create a new ritual. The vivid sky show was the end result of the botched ritual, which killed the three Tremere working on it.
- On November 8th, three minor government officials (Matt Ezmerli and Kristine Quackenbush, who worked in the Metro Transit Authority and Allan Trudden, who worked in Department of Sanitation) left town with over $3.9 million in city funds. The authorities have been unable to find any traces of the three officials or the funds. The Mayor's office is expecting economic hardship during upcoming fiscal year and has already begun measures to reduce future expenses.
- In late August and early September, there was a series of rapes in Central Park, all near the Great Hill in the northern reaches of the park. Five women were raped, and one man was raped and murdered. A single person is the main suspect in all the rape cases, despite the fact that the five women cannot agree on a description of the assailant. The women all agree, however, that their assailant had "usually earthy or rotten smell" about him.
- A series of murders has been plaguing the New York area since early September. Once a week since September 15th, the police have found a person (usually a homeless person) murdered, throat torn and several bones removed. The bones have usually been found near the corpse, broken open with the marrow removed.
