....Miscellaneous Things.... In searching the web, we've come across a number of rants, tracts and e-mails that contain a number of hints and tips on roleplaying in the World of Darkness. We've decided to collect (and reformat, for various reasons) a number of these things (some of which might be very familiar to a number of you) on this page. Now, in most cases, we've tried to credit the creators and identify them. Sadly, however, in some cases, we don't know who wrote these various things. So - if you know who wrote one of the pieces you find here, please let us know, and let us know how to get in touch with that person. Thanks, and we hope you enjoy the pieces! Please remember, at all times, that these pieces do not represent a One True Way To Roleplay or anything like that. The opinions expressed within these pieces represent those of their creators, not of the Blacklight Productions staff as a whole. These are just things, found around the net, that we liked and wanted to share. (Well, okay, I, Eric, liked them, and I'm not certain about whether or not anyone else on staff liked them, but I'm the one who's making the webpage. So I'm putting them up.) Remember to take all pieces with a grain of salt or two, okay? Forrest Spilker's Blacklight Productions Credo: Shortly after our first game, Forrest sat down and wrote. This short piece is the result. Enjoy. Eric's Rants: These are not for everyone. These are my pure, unfiltered and almost unedited thoughts on a number of White Wolf-related topics. These are my opinions only, and do not represent the opinions or philosophies of the rest of Blacklight Productions. Why I Hate Metaplots A Storyteller Talks to Their Players: In a similar vein to the Credo, here is some advice from a Storyteller to their players. The authorship and origins of this piece are unknown. If you know who wrote this, please let us know. Credit where credit is due and all that. A Guide to Being A Vampire: A gentleman by the name of James Brown (no, not that James Brown) wrote this guide back in 1997. It has withstood the test of time, and is still pretty applicable.... Enjoy the guide. Jason Corely's "Stupid" LARP Tricks: Jason Corely wrote a number of pieces some time ago concerning the various Camarilla Clans and little "tricks" to help people play them... well, differently. Sadly, we can't find any currently working e-mail address or web pages for Jason, so we don't know if he has written up tricks for the non-Camarilla clans. However, we present the Camarilla "tricks" for your amusement. Clan Brujah The Real Prince's Primer After White Wolf released the book, The Prince's Primer, Jason Corely felt obligated to make some commentary. He effectively wrote a short screed, calling it a "real" Prince's Primer, and included examples - from the Reign of President Nixon, the closest thing to a Prince most Americans every experienced.... Read it, if you have any political aspirations.... A Ventrue's Guide to Etiquette Speaking of Princes, John Ehrlich, the gentleman playing Prince Alexander von Merjenkenstein in our game, All Tomorrow's Parties, found this guide on the web and forwarded it to me. It's very applicable, so I'm sharing it all with you. Sadly, the guide was originally titled "Jo's Etiquette (complete with naff WW style quotes)," and no other author information is known. A Guide to Non-Traditional Toreadors: As long as we're talking about ways to make your character different, here is a small piece about our favorite artistic clan. Sadly, someone removed the authorship from this piece when we found it. It was signed "Jen," so that's all we know about it's author. If you any more, please let us know. Thanks! In The Company Of Rats: Here's a piece concerning another clan, the Nosferatu. Similar to the Toreador piece above, the bulk of the identifying tags were removed when I came across it. It was written by a woman named "Wendi." Again, if you know anything more about this piece, let us know so we can credit it. Thanks! The Ambassadors of Whup: In the same vein as the Toreador and Nosferatu pieces above, here is a small piece about the Brujah. The authorship of this piece is unknown. As always, let us know if you know anything about it, so we can credit it properly. The Guide to Playing Tremere: John Brownlee wrote this guide after playing Tremere for some time. It's chock full of his ideas regarding the Clan. Read and enjoy. We'll warn you, however, it is a little long.... But good! The Bunny Papers: Why do some players at our games wear little ribbons with cute fuzzy bunnies on them? Read this to find out! Chronicle Stress Syndrome: What is it? How can you stop this dreaded disease? Read here to find out! (I personally like this piece!) It was written back in 1996 by Lara vander Zee, of the The Live Role Playing Society of Edmonton, Canada. I personally like the list of Merits and Flaws.... |
