Inns and Bed & Breakfasts
We've visited a few Inns and Bed & Breakfasts on our travels. We
don't always stay in a tent on the ground. Here are a few that we have
stayed at and what we think of them.
The Old Tavern at Grafton
was a great place. Quiet place in Vermont and lovely for hiking and watching the leaves turn
during fall foliage season.
Quechee Inn at Marshland Farm. We love
this area of Vermont (the Woodstock/Quechee area). Woodstock is a quaint town and the bike ride from Quechee to Woodstock is
a lot of fun. It's been awhile since we were there, dinner was very good. In fact we
are headed back this fall to Quechee Inn and my mouth is salivating already.
Kedron Valley Inn. Also in the
Woodstock/Quechee area. We stumbled onto Kedron Valley when we got married. We even went back for
our first anniversary. The dinners are excellent and the breakfast is wonderful. Morning would
not be complete without one of Max's muffins. We even got the recipe for the
muffins we ate the morning after we got married. We don't make them as good as Max, but not bad.
The Brafferton Inn. Eric loves history, so
Nancy took us to Gettsburg for Eric's birthday one year. It was fantastic. We took a guided tour where the tour guide
drives your car. You have the tour guides undivided attention (except when he's making a turn) and he drives you through the three day battle. It really came alive. It was the most interesting personalized tour
we have been on. We stayed at the Brafferton Inn, which was a delightful Inn. We walked in after working most of the day and then driving a few hours (longer
because of traffic jams) and the Inn Keepers made us feel relaxed the second we openned the door. The suggestions for site
seeing and resturants were right on the mark.
High Meadows Vineyard & Mountain Sunset Inn. It was now Eric's turn to take
Nancy to an Inn for her birthday. It was off to Virginia. We went to High Meadows Inn, which has a vineyard and makes its own wine. The weekend we went, the Inn
had wine tasting before dinner. All the guests had a chance to meet, talk, and drink. Dinner and breakfast were
delicious. We walked around quite a bit, luckily it was warm that weekend. We also went to Thomas Jefferson's home. It was a really enjoyable long weekend.
Allaire Timbers Inn. We had a chance to go out west, Colrado, for a wedding for a friend of Eric's and
decided to combine a camping trip with a Bed & Breakfast trip. We first went to Rocky Mountain National Park, where we hiked and stayed in our tent. We then drove to a city near
the wedding and stayed in the Allaire Timbers Inn for the rest of the week. I don't know if it was the difference
between camping and the Inn, but it was REALLY nice. The food was out of this world. In fact, the Inn allows you to ask
for up to three recipes (any one except for their secret granola recipe). The whole trip was great. We saw oodles of wildlife during our stay
at Rocky Mountain National Park, had a quaint and relaxing time at Allaire Timbers and the Wedding was one of the nicest we have attended. The backdrop for the
wedding was the best. Blue skies and mountains.
