Hiking and Backpacking Trips
We like to hike and have done many local day and weekend hikes. We've also taken
a few longer and more prominent hikes. Some are listed below.
Kings Canyon National Park. Was a
trip that we took with some very good friends of ours. Kings Canyon is in California, and we had the most beautiful skies. The sequoia trees were amazing. In fact
Kings Canyon is home of the lagest living thing on earth, a sequoia tree named General Sherman Tree, the picture to the left
is of General Sherman (the tree not the man).
Shenandoah National Park is in Virginia. A quick drive from Washington, DC. and not too bad from Philadelphia/New York area.
The hiking was good, but bring lots of water and wear the correct shoes. I don't understand how people can hike in berks??! Anyway, we took a hike that had about seven or so waterfalls, some of which were breath taking. We camped and did
day hikes for this one. This was one of the more enjoyable east coast hikes we've done.
Rocky Mountain National Park was the trip that we combined with
the bed & breakfest trip for Eric's friend's wedding. At views were amazing and wildlife abound. We saw numerous elk, mule deer, chipmunks, etc.... The only problem we
had with the trip was the rain. It was ligth rain, which came every night and in the middle of the day sometimes. But the town of
Estes is close by and we would go there if the rain was really getting to us. We also drove through the tundra to get to
the bed & breakfest we stayed at for the remainder of the trip. In June it still had snow drifts at least 12' to 18' high. In fact, they had the road closed most
of our stay and we were lucky enough to get through before they closed it again for the day. Here is another site to check out for Rocky Mountian National Park
