We like almost all kinds of music. Classical,
Rock, Jazz, Blues, Folk, etc..... But there is nothing in the world like live
music. As such, we tend to go to concerts and folk fests on a regular basis.
Here are some of our favorites.
If you are in the
In the beginning of June, we try to make it to the Appel Farm Arts & Music Festival. Its a great time, the music is fantastic, and the small stage gives a very intimate setting with the performer. In 1997, we saw Richie Havens on the small stage, and I think everyone was almost in tears at the end of his set...it was that good.
In late August we head to the Philadelphia Folk Fest. Not only great music, but what a scene. If you just go to the concerts, you are missing half the fun...the fest is in the camping. Click Here to see some pictures from 1996 and 1997.
Another good place for music is the Upper MerionConcert Under the Stars.
Bands and Performers
We have to start off with the Grateful Dead. Been to some shows, but not as many as we would like, and now it is too late. We listen to the 150+ hours of taped shows, but nothing was like being there. Oh well, we must go on. If you want to share the music and have some good Jerry Garcia Band or Grateful Dead tapes, drop me a line and we'll talk. Here is our list.
This is a great band. We saw them a bunch of times and are always impressed. Get ready to move your feet when you hear them.
Kris is from
A singer/songwriter from the
Colleen Sexton. Martin's little sister, Colleen Sexton, is very good also. We caught her openning up for big brother Martin at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia.
Jim was actually a roommate of Martin Sexton, or vice versa, and has some fairly crazy stuff, but very enjoyable. Jim has a folk, rap, psychedelic thing going on in his music.
Christine is a local
A wacky band from the north. They are alot of fun and have ALOT of talent. Check out their site here...better yet check them out at a show.
If you like fiddle music, check out Natalie. We first saw at the Philadelphia Folk Fest and look forward everytime she comes back in the area. We've seen her at two venues which were not folk festivals and really enjoyed the extended time on stage.
