Review from Remote Induction:
Monophidelic is a 3" CD-R released by Erinys on
what I assume is his own "label" Furious Record Technologies.
Essentially featuring three versions of the title track. The first referred to
as Mono.Avi makes use of the current growth in technology. Allowing
this to be a video track included on this self-produced release. The video is
essentially live with some effects done to the visuals. We start as Erinys
is retreating from the camera he just turned on - with a toy monkey in the
foreground. Erinys starts the monkey clapping its cymbals then
manipulates his equipment, effectively concealed by the monkey. The motion of
the monkey and sound of music meld together well - creating a captivating
illusion. Caught up in this illusion we are slow to notice the backdrop. But
when we do we switch our attention to the shifting projections of technical
detail. Graphs and formula, mixing in contrast to the suggested to the
primitiveness of the monkey. The effect on the imagery creates a certain
blurriness, at its height it couples with the motion of Erinys
to suddenly make him look some what synthetic - an automaton. The second track
is Monophidelic itself, and is essentially the sound track from the
visual. Starting as a hum and crackle as recording equipment is turned on. From
there we have what sounds like a strip of metal twanged, or a set of springs in
motion. Somehow this metallic construction vibrates and loops in a fascinating
manner. Incendiary noise sparks and smoking static clouds mix - all effluence
from initiation. A bristling mass is built, taking over your ears with its
intensity. But in that mass we continue to be aware of detail - makeshift
rhythm and constant motion. While the sound of Monophidelic strikes
you as live, even down to the sound of the recorder start/stop. Monounsaturated
would seem to be more processed. We start in a more drawn out fashion -
extruding elements to create an atmosphere. Melody comes as a mildness of notes
a subtle motion. While the spring sound becomes thinner and wire based. The
base is a mass into which the little twitches which previously were noise
become suggestions. Monounsaturated remains full of detail and with
time might be described as bristling but the mood created seems opposite though
elements of the source can still be made
