Stenger Family in America ...
The Stenger Family in America starts with the arrival of the Ship Betsy,
in Philadelphia, 26 October 1768. On board are Jacob Stenger,
Adam Stenger, Salomon Stenger, Jacob Stenger, Johann Adam Stenger, Sr., and
Christian Stenger. The Stengers were not the average glass workmen
from Germany. They owned their own glassworks in Dornhagen, Germany,
but the German government wouldn't allow them to sell in a free market.
They abandoned their efforts in Germanyand went to work for the
Wister Glass making factory in New Jersey.
After working here for about 11 years Salomon Stenger bought
200 acres of ground in what is now Glassboro, New Jersey
and started producing glass in their own factory.
