The following is from the archives of the Mississippi Visual Artists Interactive

A Mississippi country boy, Mike has lived most of his life in Lafayette County. He learned and taught leather work as he grew up near Oxford. I was his work with leather and knowledge of horses that brought him to the attention of Elvis Presley. During the ten years Mike worked at Graceland he became a trusted friend and designer of jewelry and leather work for Elvis.
Since the shop was opened in 1976, Mike had listed among his customers Johnny Cash, Mark Collie, Billy Ray Cyrus, Felton Jarvis, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Priscilla Presley, Ricky Van Shelton, Sammie Smith, Jim Weatherly, and many other entertainers. The popularity of his work has spread throughout the world.
Mike learned the qualities that serve him so well today; hard work, integrity, and appreciation of simple beauty and natural desire to practice his art are evident in the man. His work, like his shop, reflects the unique character of Mike McGregor.
