(Unconfirmed but probable son of the John Bailey who was b Freeport
1792 and d 1881.) John BAILEY [2d] was of Westbrook at marriage,
probably the son of the John Bailey who was b. Freeport 1792 & d. 1881.
The Freeport parentage VR for his dau Henrietta refers to him as "John
Bailey 2d," implying there was a father John Bailey in town. Which there
was. John Bailey [2d] was born abt 1815 [1860 & 1880 censuses]. In
1860, John Bailey [2d] was a clerk in the US Senate. In 1880, he was
disbursing officer in the US House of Representatives (according to
censuses). In 1880, he, his wife, and his daughter & husb & 2 g-children)
lived at 519 4th ST NW, with 3 servants. They lived in Washington, where
she is (they are?) buried [census; her Burr Cem.. inscription].
