Lottery Hill Farm
Caption: Lottery Hill Farm, South Woodstock. Built by Salmon Hoisington in 1817, allegedly from his winnings in the Louisiana Lottery. The land was originally owned by Joab Hoisington, the settlor of Woodstock and once owner of the village of Woodstock. I am told Joab sold this vacant land to his brother Asahel, who sold it to his brother (or son?) Salmon. This is a photo taken some decades ago. Salmon's house is now obscured by "privacy" shrubs, which prevented us (and also prevents the owner!) from seeing this view of his house.

Caption: Fullerton Cem, S. Woodstock VT. Grave of Lt. Samuel Myrick and Martha Brewer Myrick (ancestors of Marietta Farnsworth, wife of Davis Hoisington, son of Sayles). [Sept. 18, 2003 Steve & Jon Ells.] An original member of the Society of the Cincinnati, his tombstone reads "Lieut. Samuel Myrick. He served in the army during the war of the revolution and was a faithful and meritorious officer. His mind was tranquil and serene. No terrors in his looks were seen. His Savour's smile dispeled the gloom and smoothed his passage to the tomb."
