RSAP: Research Society for American Periodicals
The RSAP is an
interdisciplinary organization of scholars interested in American magazines
and newspapers. It publishes the journal American
Periodicals, sponsors panels at the annual meeting of the
American Literature Association, and has a free moderated
discussion list, which you may join from this site.
Become

RSAP proudly announces two prizes for scholarship in American periodicals:
The ProQuest and RSAP $1000 Article Prize
For the best article on American periodicals by a pre-tenure or independent
scholar published in (or accepted for publication in) a peer-reviewed
academic journal from January 1, 2010 to December 2010. The annual prize
will be awarded at the American Literature Association (ALA) conference in
Boston, May 26-29, 2011. Articles will be judged by a blind peer review of
three scholars chosen by the RSAP Advisory Board. Applicants should
submit a registration form and THREE
hard copies of their articles, with identifying references and title
removed to Kathleen Diffley at Department of
English, University of Iowa, 310 English-Philosophy Bldg. Iowa City,
IA 52242-1492 by December 15, 2010. The winner and two honorable
mentions will be notified by January 15, 2011 and featured as panelists on
an RSAP-sponsored distinguished papers panel at ALA.
The EBSCOHost
and RSAP $1,500 Book Prize
deadline extended
For
the best single-authored monograph on American periodicals by a pre-tenure,
senior, or independent scholar published by an academic press during 2010.
(Books published during 2009 that were not submitted to our last
competition may also be considered.)
Books
will be judged by a peer review of three scholars chosen by the RSAP
Advisory Board. Applicants should submit a registration form and THREE hard
copies of their book to Craig Monk, Office of the Dean of Arts and Science,
University of Lethbridge, 4401 University Drive
West, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, T1K 3M4 by December 25, 2010. (December applicants should
fax the application ahead of their books, to hold the applicant's place for
the book to arrive.) The winner and two honorable mentions will be notified
by February 1, 2011 and recognized at an RSAP-sponsored panel/event at ALA.
Applicants to the EBSCOhost-RSAP prize must be
current members of RSAP when they submit their books. The prize will
be awarded at the American Literature Association (ALA) conference in
Boston, May 26-29, 2011.
