Some of the questions in this FAQ arose during the course of planning our gathering; some are new issues I wanted to address. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to email me at
dreams@ns.net at any time.
Information I'd Like to Share
Who Am I?
I'm an avid reader with a preference for romance novels. I also love travelling and planning social events. I spend hours online under the monikers MargieB and MegW, am an active member of several Internet "listservs," or discussion lists, and have enjoyed the many friendships that I've developed because of the Internet. To date I have planned several events, large and small, the latest being the first Celebrate Romance! in Las Vegas in April 1998.
Why are checks being made out to the coordinator rather than to the event?
This is something I wanted to address for peace of mind. I looked into getting an account for the event, but ran into a couple of drawbacks, the major one being that it would have to be either a business account or a non-profit organization account. If it were a business account, there are monthly charges that would have to be paid, not to mention the outrageous cost of business checks. A non-profit account means filing all sorts of papers with the State to establish the organization - in other words, a nightmare. None of this sat well with me; I'd rather use our money for fun things for our gathering, and still have some left over for our literary contribution. I hope everyone understands.
General Questions
What Is The Best Way to Be Informed of Updates?
An email newsletter will be sent out to various online listservs(e.g. Prodigy romance listserv, Book Store Junkies, RRA-L) and message boards as updates occur. This newsletter is by far the best tool for communication. Miscellaneous announcements, and responses to pertinent event questions, are also sent to subscribers of the newsletter. Please send an email to dreams@ns.net if you would like to be added to the distribution list.
Can I bring a guest who is not "online"?
Guests who love romance novels are definitely welcome! Just print an extra registration form and ask your guest to fill it out and mail it in with the fee. In the blank for "email address" please ask your guest to write in your name and email address (i.e., "Friend of Jane Doe, jane_doe@xxxxx.xxx).
Are the hotel room prices per night or for the whole weekend?
Our rate is per night, and good for Friday and Saturday nights. If you'd like to come in earlier, or stay later, a limited number of rooms will be available on both Thursday and Sunday nights at the same rate.
How can we get authors to attend?
Send an email to your favorite authors to let them know that we are gathering, provide the URL for the site, and let them know that we would love to meet them and spend time with them! Several authors are on our current distribution list, but your personal email would, I'm sure, be much appreciated, whether the authors are already on that list or not.
Will we have free time to spend with online friends?
I've structured the group functions so that there will plenty of time for smaller get-togethers. This is an important part of the weekend; I know many of us are coming from far away, and will want to make as much use of our time together as possible. At the same time I'm trying to fit in as much as I can into our catered meetings without rushing everyone through. The group sit-down affairs provide the best opportunity for readers and authors to converse, share ideas and really get to know one another.

To Our Authors
If you have specific concerns that you'd like addressed please don't hesitate to email
me. However, I did want to provide some general information to any authors interested in attending. The book signings will be done within the function rooms, and there will be no individual cost to you for this. I structured the registration fees so that all of us will share any and all charges related to the gathering for the entire weekend (everything has a price tag at these functions, unfortunately). We enjoy the camaraderie and the sharing and receiving of ideas with our attending authors, and hope that you will also enjoy meeting with a group of enthusiastic and astute readers. The book signing by our attending authors is an added highlight of the gathering. For the book signing, I will be working with a local bookstore to provide your books for purchase at the gathering.
If you have hand-outs, giveaways or surprises that you'd like to bring, please do! A table will be provided for these items. Alternatively, if you would like to have your items included in the goodie bag given to all CR! 1999 attendees, contact
me to make prior arrangements for a time and method of delivery. Please encourage other authors to join us! This gathering is not only unique in its audience of online romance readers but provides a special opportunity to converse and become acquainted with a group of enthusiastic readers. The authors who attended the Las Vegas gathering (JoAnn Ross, Jo Beverley, Nancy Gideon, Denee Cody and Bonnie Tucker) can give you further insight into the results of that weekend.
