VOLUNTEERS MOVE US!

Fannin County Habitat has moved into temporary donated storage areas. It was several weeks of hard work and we couldn’t have done it without the help of dozens of our volunteers and community supporters. While we still have many area-wide partners out combing Bonham for donated office space for us, we had office volunteers and dedicated staff organizing, inventorying, and packing the tools and equipment of our trade. We thank you!

We had our twelve volunteer board members donating trucks, trailers and labor on our designated moving Saturdays, but we couldn’t have gotten it done without two wonderfully energetic groups of young people.

On the first Saturday Move Day we had the Boy Scouts and their mothers from Bonham’s Boys Scouts of America Troop 50 to help us move two huge trailer loads to our storage garage in Honey Grove that is being donated by the Hall-Voyeur Foundation.

On our second Saturday Move Day we had twenty young women from the Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority of SOSU in Durant helping us. They are a community service sorority and this is the second year that they have helped FCH. They moved several trailer loads to the house that the First Baptist Church of Bonham has generously donated to us for temporary storage.

On both Saturdays these young people came to work—and they worked hard! With their energy they also brought light-hearted laughter that made the hours of labor fly by for our senior citizen volunteers and all of our movers! (click here to see pictures)

We are very grateful to everyone that helped us and we thank God for all of you!

As for me, this senior citizen Volunteer Coordinator is doubling my efforts to find more youth groups and young adults to join us in our mission to provide decent homes for deserving families in Fannin County. As long as we have to work, we just as well laugh our way through it!  If you know of any young people that may be interested please give me a call at 903-640-1439 and leave a message!

Have a blessed May 2008 and I will see you soon at the build site—if not before! Eva

Build Site News:
We have had welcome rains this spring and with them the knowledge that our Honey Grove lot has a drainage problem.  Fortunately, one of our volunteers, Alton Hainline, has found 54 tons of fill dirt for us and had it delivered in this past week. He has also installed the temporary power pole and we will be getting power to the lot this coming week.
We thank you, Mr. Hainline!

SPECIAL NOTE: We are all excited to get started swinging our hammers, and we ask that you realize that we are ALL volunteers and most of our skilled labor is donating their time. This helps us keep the cost down for our new homebuyers! Our mission is to provide affordable, decent housing to deserving families in Fannin County. We do this with the help of our generous volunteers!  We will be swinging hammers and having fun real soon!!
Watch your mailbox for news of the first build day SOON!!

Office News

WE ARE STILL SERVING YOU! We are as close as your phone or email!  We may not have a public office at this time, but we want you to know that we are still available to be of service to you and our entire county. We are still able to answer your questions, mail or email any forms and provide you with the information that you may need. Please help us find a donated home soon and we will even pour you a copy of coffee or a cold drink while you visit!  See the prayer list on page 2 for our needs.

Volunteerism Quote:
Everyone can be great because anyone can serve.  You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t even have to make your subject and and your verb agree to serve… You only need a heart full of grace.  A soul generated by love. — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
