Activity 2:
Keeping Secrets

 

Are you good at keeping secrets? Could you keep a secret about something that could change a person's life forever, even yours? Winne was handed the secret of the spring and where it was. Was hse going to keep that secret for her new friends the Tucks?

Task

Take the role of a friend to Winnie and design a card and write a letter to give her advise on what to do.

Process and Resources

  1. 1. After reading Chapter 25, think about all that has happened to Winnie and if she's still going to keep the spring a secret. If she was a true friend, would she keep the secret? Would she drink the water herself?
  2. 2. Make a list of encouraging thoughts you could give Winne as a friend to advise her in making her own decision.
  3. 3. Use Chapter 12 when Tuck spoke with Winnie about the cycle to help support some of your thoughts.
  4. 4. Create a card you could send to Winnie. Write your own quote or saying to be on the front of the card to share with your friend Winnie (http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acropolis/976/quofrend.html) You can also use the Greetings Workshop CDrom by Microsoft to create your own design and following the same guideline. Y
  5. 5. Hand write a letter in the inside of your card using your thoughts you listed in #2.

Project Guidelines

Use the following guidelines for completing your project:

  • Use the quote for the front of your card
  • Design your card using colored pencils or crayons and maybe design a logo to go along with the theme of your quote
  • Select Winnie to write to and portray yourself as her friend
  • Include all parts of a friendly letter: date, greeting, body, and closing

Conclusion

"Mail" your card to a classmate in your class to read your card to Winnie.

Using http://www1.bluemountain.com/index.html you can create an electronic card and email a friendly greeting card to a parent or a friend to thank them for his/her friendship.
