Dear Family and Friends,

Ed and I had an uneventful, but long trip to Poland!  Arriving at the Atlanta Airport at 11:00 AM Friday morning, we were 26 hours from our destination and only 11 ˝ of those actually in the air!!  Security was such that we felt very comfortable on all flights and how fun it was to receive those hugs and kisses when we got here from James D (and his mama) who immediately wanted to know if we had brought DaddyGhee’s van!

With a good night’s sleep, we decided we were ready for sight seeing so we boarded the bus to Koszalin hoping to take the train to Darlowo, the sleepy fishing village by the mouth of the River Wieprza. Darlowo was granted its charter in 1270 and promised some interesting sights..  No train so back to the bus for the 1 hour ride.  Having DaddyGhee along is just wonderful because he adds stability to our road trips : - )!!

Darlowo is quite an interesting and quaint city having some beautiful and very old cathedrals.  The Old Town has retained a medieval character, which includes the town walls and one of the Gothic town gates.  We first went to St. Mary’s Cathedral and it was quite beautiful.  Next we went to St. Gertrude’s which is the only 12 sided Scandinavian Gothic cathedral in Poland.  As you know, James D loves church and music so we decided to go inside—just for a little while we thought.  Somehow we thought Ed was going to wait outside for us, so we didn’t wait on him—1st mistake.  St. Gertrude’s is quite old and small, very modest in appearance—it was interesting to me that there were so many children there—and we decided to go up into the balcony—2nd mistake.  Each step became narrower and more rickety.  When we finally reached the balcony, we went to the first row so JD could see—3rd mistake—as the rail to down below looked like a gentle push would send it (and us) tumbling to the first level.  Needless to say, we decided after a little music we should leave and with fear and trepidation, we made our descent.  When we reached the bottom, with a little glare from the priest, I tried to open the door to leave and it wouldn’t budge.  Ginny tried and we decided we were locked in.  45 minutes later, thankfully a little girl was taken out by her grandmamma (because the priest had glared at her) and we were able to make our escape.  When we found Ed in the adjoining cememtary, the glare from him made the priest seem just plain friendly. He had been in to the church 3 times looking for us, having climbed the balcony on both sides and not seeing us. He vowed to not take any additional trips with us but James D soon had him smiling again (and besides it gave him time for reflection and some very good photography). After a trip to the lighthouse, we caught the last bus back to Koszalin.

James Dylan is doing so well in his therapies.  It is back to gels for me and everyone is amazed at how good he has been for me.  That boy has his mama’s number in gels. I also went to stander which does indeed this time look a little tortuous!!  Ed went to UGUL and got his first taste of hands on therapy. They have increased the weights on his arms and legs.  That boy works HARD!  It is simply amazing.  (We let Ginny sleep til 10:00 on Monday as she certainly needed the break.)

Will close for now as it’s time to retrieve JD from (Tuesday) gym time.

Love,

E, V, G & D
