This project titled after Plato, “Parable of the Cave” is a visual chronicle of my spiritual birth. I began
to work in front of the camera in 1979 with a desire to discover “truth”. Working in darkenss with the camera
lens locked open on the roof of 31 Union Square West in New York City, I painted with flashes of light on 35mm slide
film. I studied the principles of various lighting effects, cataloging results and coined the phrase flash ~ painting.
