Welcome!

To my friends: While I'm dealing with cancer I'm publishing updates on a CarePage. If you'd like information about my condition you'll need to join the page -- it's free. Then you'll receive an e-mail every time the CarePage is updated. Thanks to everyone for your support. Warmly, Sydney

Welcome to my website ... and thanks to Russell Kilday-Hicks for maintaining it.

I hope you'll find everything you may want to use here: articles, my c.v. (résumé), workshop offerings, how to order my books, and more. My contact information at the top of every page.
Objective

Now that I'm in my late sixties, my objective is to be of maximum help for teachers, parents, and other caregivers of young children in two major areas:

1) Creative Arts
First, helping children express themselves freely and joyously in the arts: music (both instrumental and vocal) dance (of all sorts), stories (listening to them and telling them) painting, drawing, sculpting, modeling, working in wire, in collage ...

See this example ...

2) Children Under Stress

Second, helping children through the very hard stresses they must face: parents in prison, death and dying, divorce, national horrors (September 11, earthquakes, bombings, hurricanes, the Challenger explosion, and whatever is coming) and the smaller stresses as well (first day of school, moving from one home/community to another, sibling conflict, etc.).

The first and second areas are deeply connected. We all go through much stress in our lives and if we have the means to represent our experiences and express our emotions through the arts, we can often balance ourselves without much intervention by others.
