EVANGELIA KINGSLEY and CHIP PRINCE return to the Metropolitan Room Sunday, September 22 at 4:00 pm and Monday, September 30 at 9:30 pm after a long absence (thanks to life and Mary Poppins) with their new show DANCE ME TO THE END OF LOVE.  Featuring the iconic song by Leonard Cohen along with material of Gershwin, Porter, Rorem, Waits, and oh so many more, Chip and Evangelia will explore dance through song.  They are joined on stage by special guests, and offstage by director, ELIZA BECKWITH.

The Boston Globe said Evangelia is “effective,” and “impassioned,” the Star-Ledger called her “riveting,” and the Princeton Packet said “Kingsley is a marvel.”  David Finkle of Backstage said “I’m still thinking about the hilarious yet subtle drunk she threw during the William Bolcom-Arnold Weinstein ‘At the Last Lousy Moments of Love.’”  He called her, “[d]ark, fleshy, sexy, and proudly Greek” and ended his enthusiastic review of her NY cabaret debut with “. . . she’s good enough for an audience to want to hear plenty more.”

What reviewers and audiences alike have seen is that Kingsley doesn't just sing songs, she becomes them.  Every piece is informed by a theatrical passion that has always been her hallmark as both actress and singer.  The Virginian-Pilot called her Cleopatra in Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra "a compelling creation, refreshingly regal, coy and feminine" and the Richmond News Leader added "petulant, seductive, jealous, childlike yet mature, neurotic -- and gloriously, theatrically so."  The Cleveland Plain Dealer said of her Witch in Sondheim's Into the Woods, "Dynamic hands . . . penetrating voice . . . formidable figure" and the Free Times agreed, "remarkable . . . wonderful serpentine physicality that allows her to command the stage with a simple gesture."

Evangelia met CHIP PRINCE during Baz Luhrmann's production of La Boheme and they have worked together happily ever since.  The seed for DANCE ME TO THE END OF LOVE was planted during their previous collaboration, PLACES TO LIVE:  TRAVELING MUSIC FOR THE RESTLESS, but Chip and Evangelia haven’t been in the same place long enough to develop it . . . until now.  Along with talented director, ELIZA BECKWITH (known for world premieres of original and complex plays with Ensemble Studio Theatre and New Directions Theatre), they have created a surprising, funny and emotionally powerful journey through song.
