The East Bay Butch Group was founded in early 2001 by
two butch dykes who wanted to create a group to foster connection and friendships between butches. We were quickly
joined by a friend who was seeing many former butch buddies transitioning and embracing their male identities instead.
We used to meet on the first Thursday of each month at Boadecia's
Books, but due to the unfortunate closing of the bookstore, we have lost our access to a great free space.
We're back to the first Thursday of the month.
You can find us at the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists
(1924 Cedar Street (at Bonita), Berkeley, CA) at 7:00 pm on the first Thursday
of each month. The entrance to our meeting space is on Bonita -- come in through the gate and we're on the second floor.
Unfortunately, there is no elevator.
Our Purpose...
We meet monthly to discuss and explore butch identity, to
honor and preserve butch culture, and to share our common experiences. We usually have a topic for each meeting that
acts as a starting point or catalyst for our conversation.

Join Us...
We welcome anyone who identifies as a Butch. You are
also welcome if you think you might be a butch, wonder if you are a butch or if you have been getting
called butch and want to talk to some other butches.
We try to be inclusive, rather than exclusive,
but it's worth mentioning that we're specifically talking here about "butch" as a noun rather than as an adjective.
We appreciate that there are plenty of people in the world who consider "butch" to be an appropriate description of their
style or behavior. The group, however, is really focused on those of us who identify as Butches.
We welcome butches, studs and tomboys of all classes/cultures/ethnicities/ages.

2007 Topics...
January - Butch
Resolutions -- Maybe you made a resolution for the new year, or maybe you're just resolved to spend more
time with East Bay Butches...
February - Girlwatching
-- nothing much to say about this one; it is what it is.
March - Butches & Our Toys
-- Seems a lot of us like toys that are marketed to little boys: video games, matchbox cars, lego, model trains, etc.
Bring your favorite for show & tell, or just come talk about the playful side of butch life.
April - Girlfriends, Lovers,
Partners, Femmes: Appreciating the Women in our Lives -- A chance to talk about the women we love and what
we love about them...
May - Parental Legacies
-- How did/do your parents deal with having a butch in the family? Are you just like your dad? Or (horror
of horrors), have you realized that you're partnered with someone just like one of your parents? Here's your chance to vent
about the good and bad of your own parental legacy...
June - SIX YEARS of the East Bay Butch Group!!!
-- Actually, we hit the six year mark in February... but, in keeping with Queer Pride Month, we're going to celebrate our
anniversary in June. Come talk about if/how connecting with other butches has made a difference in your life.
If you haven't been to the group for awhile, here's your chance to join us, reconnect, and reflect on the 6+ years of
this group.
July - Butch on the Streets...
-- No, we're not suggesting you're a femme in the sheets! (it's nobody's business...) This month's topic is
a chance to explore what it is that makes so many butches hold back from engaging with each other -- out in the world,
at work, anywhere we go. What are the forces and issues at play, and does it matter?
August -
September -
October -
November -
December -
