Our Beliefs

Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine: continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
1 Timothy 4:16

A Bible Baptist is one who believes in a supernatural Bible, which tells of a supernatural Christ, Who had a supernatural birth, Who spoke supernatural words, Who performed supernatural miracles, Who lived a supernatural life, Who died a supernatural death, Who rose in supernatural power, Who ascended in supernatural splendor, Who intercedes as a supernatural priest and Who will one day return in supernatural glory to establish a supernatural kingdom on earth.

We believe the Bible was inspired by God.  That he used holy men to record the words that he gave them and that they were recorded without error.  We believe that the Bible is the only guide for faith and practice and that it is the supreme judge of all human conduct, creeds, and opinions.  We futhermore believe that God has preserved his word for the English speaking world in the King James Bible of 1611 and that all other translations are inferior and to be rejected having been translated from an inferior text.

We believe in one God revealed in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is divine, equal with the Father and the Son.  His ministry among the lost consists of convicting them of sin, judgment, and righteousness.  He indwells the believer and is credited with washing, sanctifying, and justifying the sinner.  We reject the charismatic movement as a tool of Satan to deceive the unsuspecting, provide a unifying theme in the ecumenical movement, and to elevate experience above the Scripture.  Tongues in the Bible were known languages and they passed away with the conclusion of the New Testament canon.

We believe the Devil is a real and active, although created, being.  We believe he was created perfect but because of pride he rebelled against the creator and set himself to oppose God.  He seeks to keep the lost blind to their condition and to keep the believer mired in complacency, carnality, and defeat.

We believe in the literal interpretation of Genesis one and two.  God created the universe, world, and all that is therein in six twenty-four hour days.  We reject evolution without exception and consider the gap theory to be an attempt to make allowances for evolutionary theory.

We believe that Christ was supernaturally conceived.  The Scripture reveals the nature of his conception and birth was unique, his mother, Mary, having not known a man.  He was conceived of the Holy Ghost in the womb of Mary.  He was born of a virgin.

We believe the atonement that Christ provided on the cross is sufficent for all men but only applicable to those who repent and believe the gospel.  His atonement is all that is necessary to reconcile the sinner to God, thus the need for the sinner to engage in any good work is absolutely and totally unnecessary.

We reject the theology that is often designated by the term Calvinism.  We believe that it is God's desire to save all men and that he has chosen in eternity past to save all those who repent and believe the gospel.  We do not believe that what God foreknows he of necessity foreordains.

We believe that repentance and faith are the appropriate response to the preaching of the gospel.  When men respond in repentance and faith they are saved by God's grace.  Both faith and repentance are matters of the heart.   Those who truly believe also repent and those who truly repent also believe.  We do not emphasize the sinner's prayer and believe that much harm has been done by simply getting people to agree to certain facts on an intellectual level.  The real evidence that salvation has taken place is a changed life.

We believe the church is a called out assembly of baptized believers covenanted together to carry out the work of the Lord.  The New Testament church was established by Christ during his earthly ministry and that before Pentecost.  The first church consisted of the twelve apostles.  The New Testament church is always a local congregation and always visible.  We believe the universal, invisible church concept is protestant doctrine that has its roots in catholicism and that it is not extracted from the teachings of the New Testament but forced upon it.  We furthermore believe the church that Christ established has had a continued existence since that time and it takes its present form in churches that call themselves Baptist.  At the same time we acknowledge that there are some who claim the name Baptist who are in fact not Baptist at all.

We believe baptism is only for believers.  It is only by immersion.  It is not for salvation but to provide a picture of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ; and to bear testimony that the one being baptized has died to their old way of life and has been raised to walk in newness of life.  We believe baptism is only valid if administered by a sound Baptist Church.

We believe the Lord's Supper is for members of the observing church only.  It is a local church ordinance, because a local church is the only kind found in the New Testament.  We believe it is a memorial that Christ himself established to commemorate his death and to cause us to anticipate his return.  We believe the nature of the elements are critical and that the Lord instituted his supper using unleavened bread and unleavened fruit of the vine.  We reject the use of alcoholic wine as a fitting symbol of the blood of Christ.

We stand opposed to the ecumenical movement and believe we should maintain our separation from those who preach a false gospel.  We refuse to be beguiled by those who would say we only disagree on the minor points when in fact we disagree on how a sinner gets to heaven.  We refuse to be moved by those who seek to shame us by their elevation of love, toleration, and acceptance at the expense of the truth.

We believe in personal separation.  God's children should be different from the world and should have no shame to come out from among them.  We believe that such separation should and will manifest itself in our attitudes, language, behaviour, dress, length of hair, and choices of entertainment.  We do not believe that we were saved by grace to make void the law but to establish it and that those who walk in the Spirit will have the righteousness of the law fulfilled in them.  We will not be dissuaded by cries of legalism and Christian liberty.  We joyfully and humbly place the emphasis on Christian holiness.  We desire to be identified with the church at Ephesus when it is said that they hated the deeds of the Nicolaitans.

We believe all those who have entered into a relationship with God through his Son Jesus Christ go to heaven when this life is over and those who continue in their rebellion go to hell.  We believe that both heaven and hell are literal places.  Heaven is a place of rest, peace, and bliss.  Hell is a place of judgment, condemnation, and unmentionable suffering.

We believe the rapture of the saints is imminent.  Our meeting him in the air is the next event on the prophetical calendar.  The catching away of the saints will pave the way for the anti-christ to reveal himself and the tribulation period will commence.  We believe that the tribulation period will last for a period of seven years in which great devastation will be unleashed upon the earth,  Israel will be persecuted severely, and it will be a time of intense gospel preaching.  This preaching will be done by the two witnesses, the 144,000 Jewish male virgins and an angel that will fly through the midst of heaven preaching the everlasting gospel.  We believe as a result of this preaching that a great number will be saved and they also will face great persecution and martyrdom.  At the conclusion of the seven years of tribulation the Lord will return in power and glory with the angels of heaven and the saints and will establish his kingdom for a thousand years on earth.  He will rule from the city of Jerusalem and the throne of David.  The saints will rule with him.  Satan will be bound for a thousand years.  At the conclusion of the thousand years Satan will be released and there will be one last rebellion which will be put down and then Christ will reign for eternity in a new heaven and a new earth.

Beloved when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
