Mr. Wickersham has extensive FAA, ICAO, consulting, and military experience in aviation and air traffic in the U.S. and abroad.  He began his ATC career in the U.S. Navy as a tower controller at Naval Air Stations Coco Solo, Panama and Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico.  He returned to Roosevelt Roads later as the FAA/Navy Liaison Officer Caribbean and was an FAA Designated Examiner for Roosevelt Roads Tower and Approach.

His FAA experience includes management, supervisory, planning, procedures, training, evaluation, military liaison, and control positions in Center, Tower, and Approach Control facilities and Regional Headquarters in the FAA's Southern, Great Lakes, and Pacific regions.  He was an FAA Team member of the USAF and FAA Korea National Airspace System Improvement Study.

UN & ICAO assignments have included:

  • UNDP Team Leader, Evaluation of Civil Aviation Caretaker Authority for Somalia Project (Mogadishu Flight Information Center) in 2009
  • Project Manager, Mogadishu Airport, Somalia during UNOSOM II & Operation Restore Hope 
  • Air Traffic Planning Instructor/Adviser, Instituto de Proteção ao Vôo, São José dos Campos, Brazil
  • Inter-Country Expert Bangkok Far East & Pacific Regional Office
  • Terminal Planning/Facility Management Adviser, Nepal, Afghanistan, & Thailand
  • Supervisor Instructor, Bangkok Civil Aviation Training Center

Projects with Aerospace Services International of Chantilly, Virginia have included:

  • Project Manager, East African Community GPS/GNSS Implementation Technical Assistance project
  • Project Manager, Jordan Airspace Modernization Plan.
  • Team Member, Center for Strategic & Intl. Studies, General Aviation Security  
  • Air Traffic Services Expert,Y2K Contingency Training for the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority

Ernest is an active, current Commercial Pilot and Instrument/Multi-engine Flight Instructor with land and seaplane ratings.  He also holds an FAA Aircraft Dispatcher license.  He has developed and instructed flight, ground, and computer applications courses at Purdue and Vincennes Universities at the Aviation Technology Center in Indianapolis.  He has been Aviation Senior Instructor and was Naval Executive Officer at Culver Academy Summer Schools & Camps four summers.

 

He has also had UN, U.S. Department of State, Organization for Security & Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and Intl. Republican Institute election, democratization, and humanitarian assignments in Ukraine, Armenia, Belarus, Bangladesh, Macedonia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Russia, and Croatia.
