This course is designed to give students an overview of the
basic concepts of biology. The course information is presented to
students using a variety of instructional techniques that include
lecture, laboratory exercises, cooperative group learning, and
research. Students will complete the course with a greater
insight into the scientific process and how it is used to
investigate the interactions between the environment and the
organisms that inhabit it.
The IB curriculum content knowledge is taught
over the course of two years. IB Biology I will cover Cells
and Cell Theory, Biochemistry and Nucleic Acids, Genetics and
Evolution. IB Biology II will cover Human health and
physiology, Botany and Ecology. In order to earn the IB diploma
or a Certificate in Biology, students are required to pass IB generated
examinations. The IB courses taught at South Salem High School
are designed to meet the strict curriculum requirements so
students can take the IB examinations with confidence
