I have had the pleasure of working with Valerie Wormell as a Selectman and will support her bid for re-election with my vote. I would like to urge voters to do the same.

It seems apparent that Selectmen meetings have become increasingly complex in this age of information and instant communication. This year has been singularly difficult. I have seen the heated discussions and have heard the divisiveness. I am also aware, however, that Valerie has consistently set herself apart from the fray and continues to do what she believes is in our best interest. I admire that in her. Valerie is always prepared and engaging at every meeting. She clearly studies, thinks, analyzes and weighs issues before she votes. This is precisely what I want in my Selectman, especially when special interests and emotions begin to blur the issues. I do not believe that Westford can afford to squander the experience she brings to the Board. At this critical juncture when every penny counts, I believe we would all be better served by someone who, as a sitting Selectman, has been through the budget season during the three most recent cycles.   She is ready for the job, proven, and can hit the ground running.

I wish to underscore that Valerie is always thoroughly versed in the subject matter before the Board. She has demonstrated her hard work and maintains an open and logical mind. She listens to viewpoints and considers all that is said. She has proven time and again that she devotes 100 percent to the job.

Westford has some significant challenges ahead requiring devotion to task and an increase in Board harmony. It has been my experience that Valerie has devoted significant time seeking to improve the Board’s interaction by reviewing, drafting and codifying policy and procedures. I wish to now give her the chance to implement those procedures. Who better to try and implement the process on how the Board can perform better than the principal author of improvements in procedure?

The Board of Selectmen has experienced changes in recent years. Some clamor for it as soon as a new Selectman takes a vote they don’t agree with. I agree that certainly sometimes change has its place. However, Valerie’s performance and experience will serve this changing Board best at this time. Her work ethic is distinguished. She speaks intelligently at meetings and is no wallflower. She is respectful to voters and makes herself available to concerned community members. She is fiscally responsible and that is something we can all use in these difficult financial times.

I think we have been fortunate to have Valerie for the past 3 years. She serves the needs of Westford without personal gain, nor does she compromise her beliefs to satisfy a special interest group. I not only admire that, I require it. Valerie Wormell has earned my vote.    Please join me in supporting her.
