The chair reported that the Head of School had vetoed the 16 October motion regarding a cash register display in the Commons after a consultation with
the Food Service Manager. She had agreed to be present at this meeting, but a conflict arose preventing her attendance. It was reported
that the purchase of a new cash register system for the Commons was on the school's list of capital improvements, but had not been deemed a high
priority.
The Senate discussed appropriate school responses to the notable national and international events of the past two months. It was felt that it was important
for members of the school community to discuss the matter and that it was important for members of the school community to have accurate information. It was
suggested that a Forum be used as a medium for formal discussion of the situation. 11, a member of the Forum Committee, pointed out that all Forums
are booked until March. It was suggested that an assembly be held outside of the Forum period. The chair asked 11 to report the Senate's discussion
to the Forum Committee. Another suggestion was that the entire school be asked to read an article pertaining to the issue by a given date, at which time
advisories would discuss it. A suggestion for providing information to the school community was a room or bulletin board with a map of Afghanistan and
vicinity, articles, and other pertinent information possibly including a television tuned to a news station.
10 moved that there be one place, to be determined by the Senate, where facts can be gathered about September 11 and other current issues.
The motion passed unanimously (11-0).
Respectfully Submitted,
