New BusinessAdding a month to the school calendar
Budget expenditure considerationAdvocate is not present, so may be discussed at next meeting.
Student militiaDiscussion took place dealing with the idea of having a student 'militia' on campus, for Art or PE credit possibly, that would lead to research into the art of war, the writings of Che Guevara, etc. This led to further discussion of the seriousness with which issues are brought before the Senate. The idea of an AMP or class including a discussion of wartime feelings and an evolutionary process of history was suggested. Suggestion was made that a frivolous proposal can be seen as mocking the Senate itself.
Motion (IR):That the Senate moves on to the next topic.
Passed overwhelmingly
March 26 MinutesRatified overwhelmingly
Senate RetreatScheduled for 2:15-4:15 on April 30th, the 5th Tuesday, but we now need a staff meeting that day from 3:45-5:15. After discussion about timing for the retreat, the idea of the direction of the Senate came up.
Motion (10):I move to devote a meeting under the Senate's choice to be used to discuss the direction of the Senate
Passed overwhelmingly
General discussion ensued about how the Senate is perceived by students. They may think the Senate doesn't get anything done, as a Scrambler headline suggests, or they may get frustrated when the Senate does not immediately adopt their ideas as a procedure. Mention was made about a lack of passion in today's Senate, as opposed to a few years ago, or even the class Day discussions of last year. Things like a new couch and art in frames on the walls of Wissner are concrete examples of what has happened due to the Senate this year. Also, mention was made of the $600 grant to the Big Broadcast AMP and the fact that students are now on faculty hiring committees. Possibly more announcements of these accomplishments should be made in Town Meetings, as well as Class Meetings and open Forums. More discussion ended the meeting, including the possibility of making an end-of-year report detailing what the Senate has accomplished this year, and whether the idea of a Judiciary Committee fallen by the wayside due to student apathy.

Respectfully Submitted,
