senate minutes for Friday January 19, 2001
all senators here, minutes approved with 9 ir and 12 abstaining

gv [faculty member] visited to let us know that he believed that the constitution did not allow the senate judiciary power, and if we wanted to have judiciary power he thought an amendment would be required.

we discussed class reactions to the motion proposed last week regarding the possibility of senate having judiciary power, and also reactions to the idea of student deans.
freshmen - pretty opposed to everything
sophomores - very against motion, in general like the idea of student deans, but concern for privacy and bias
juniors - sort of split, not really so opposed to motion
seniors - like the student dean idea but not the motion.
we voted on the motion that was tabled last week - two abstained but all others opposed - DID NOT PASS.

more discussion of judiciary concept, a lower, intermediate court, something smaller than a dean's meeting
the idea of jury duty was brought up - diverse, random, everyone.

jm handed out schedule possibilities for spring term to take back to our classes.
