 Welcome to the unofficially official Newport Stars web page. The Newport Stars are a girls soccer team in the Eastside Youth Soccer Association of Washington State. We are in the North Division (the best division, of course!) of the Newport Soccer League. And I am the coach! We have 14 outstanding players on the team. The Stars have always been a good team, with very talented players. But we do seem to get a little better each and every year. This year was our best ever! Our record was 9-2 with 33 goals scored, and just 9 scored against us. Not bad, eh?
The Newport Stars are (in alphabetical order): Alaina, Alisha, Alissa, Diana, Jayme, Jodi, Katey, Katie, Katie, Laura, Meghan, Rachel, Taryn, Tricia. The coaches are Jim and Rob. Soccer is a great sport for kids to play. Not only is it a ton of fun, it is also a great teacher. It teaches teamwork. I don't think that in any other sport you rely on your teammates quite as much. It also teaches decision-making. Every time you're in a play you make a quick decision. When the ball comes to you do you dribble, do you pass, to which player do you pass to? I grew up playing soccer and enjoyed every bit of it--except that my coaches in my early years were a bit... overboard. And so now as a coach I try very hard not to be too overboard myself! I try to put a good balance between winning, and just having fun. And I think that on the Stars we are very successful at that!
