The Inside Passage of Alaska Day 4

To start with I want to say hi to my boys. I have to tell you that Grandma Hart has taken your request to heart and here you go a picture of me...

We spend a lot of time here in this little alcove off deck 8. The wireless network reaches here and not many people know about it. Not to mention the waiting staff leaves us alone. The view is fabulous.

We are sorry for the long download time for these pages. We just could not delete any more of these pics. To give you an idea, we ended up taking over 150 pictures of the icebergs.

Icebergs

Ok, today was breathtaking. We were going to Sawyer Glacier assuming the passage was not full of icebergs. We started our day like all the rest, a mile walk around the ship at 0700 with Holly. Only this time, there were icebergs.

This is the first iceberg we saw. We got very behind on our walk due to iceberg sitings. As we watched the icebergs, I heard the same phrase in my head over and over again..... "mommy, mommy, there is an iceberg right there".

After our walk, we had a little time to go take more pics before our strength training class.

Here is the pass. Way too many icebergs to go through. So we turned around and headed back.

Here is one of the glaciers we could see on the top of the mountains.

Some of the icebergs came so close we could look straight down on them.

The question has come up as to why icebergs are blue. The answer has been, because that is the color of ice. Why didn't we think of that. The reason ice in our freezers is white is due to light reflecting off the air ockes formed when the water freezes. Glacial ice does not have those pockets.

After taking so many pics of icebergs, I noticed there were other things to look at, like mountains with mist and trees...

Waterfalls...

and more icebergs.

Notice the smirk on her face.

And this is why..

After the iceberg viewing it was time for a hot tub...

and a hot sauna.
