ABOUT S&A
Shlian and Associates, Inc. began
as Deborah Shlian and Associates in 1990. As a board certified Family Practitioner
and MBA with over sixteen years of managed care experience (as both a clinician
and manager), Deborah Shlian brings a unique perspective to healthcare searches
and consulting. Her husband, Joel Shlian, MD, MBA joined the firm in 1994.
Dr. Joel Shlian is also a board certified Family Practitioner and MBA with
a strong business and managed care background. In 1996, the company moved
its corporate office to Florida, maintaining a west coast office as well.
Both principals are active in healthcare management organizations such as
the American College of Physician Executives and the American Association
of Health Plans, always keeping abreast of the changes in medicine and in
particular, managed care. They are frequent contributors of articles and
textbooks on current issues.
Additionally, we have over a dozen associates with offices across the country,
all with strong healthcare backgrounds, who are called upon to assist with
specific searches.
S&A's focus has always been to act as consultants to healthcare clients,
helping them to build high-performance management teams vital for success.
Initially, the firm concentrated on physician executives. As clients have
requested broader services, S&A has also helped to identify entry, middle
and senior level non-physician managers for various enterprises including
established as well as start-up health plans, academic institutions, utilization
review and healthcare consulting companies.
The firm's mission is to continuously improve the services we provide through
innovative thinking, responsiveness and follow-through. In this way, S&A
has become a leader in health care executive search.
