"My paintings are, foremost, a personal record of a particular time, place, and circumstance. My interests continue to be focused on the natural and social history of the Pacific Northwest and I expect that, if my observations are keen enough, the questions posed by these pictures could be extended to other specific places in the West.

I realize change to any particular locale is inevitable, whether by the forces of nature or the forces of man -- however, it seems that the pace of change has quickened and that the randomness of natural change has been replaced by the obvious and predictable patterns of man.

The unintended consequences of our actions loom large. These pictures record places where bearings can be taken. Hopefully by reflecting on where we have been, we can shed some light on the path ahead."
