Comments/Criticisms

The door opened, and David stepped into Master Elementalist Ben's quarters.

The decor reminded him vaguely of an ancient church or monastery. Instead of the harsh brightness common to most room lights, they were few, and dimmed to a minimum. Although their were not many adorments to the room, they conveyed a sense of peace and tranquility. Small statues and tapestries filled alcoves and covered walls.Incesnse was burning on a table in the center of the room, the candle adding light to the otherwise dark living area.Overall, the room emitted an aura of tranquility, if not a homely nature.

Master Ben was sitting next to the incense table on a cushion. His posture seemed to indicate that he was meditating, and not to be disturbed. As David turned to leave, a low voice called out "please have a seat, David". Cautiously watching the master, David took a cushion and sat cross-legged across from Ben. The elder instantly awoke, stretching for a moment before returning his attention to his visitor. "I recieved a messege that you wished to speak with me, and here you are. What is it that troubles you?"

David took a deep breath, and began to describe his dream. "Every time, I end up on something like a ship, and the person carrying me disappears. I think it is a woman, but the face is covered by some veil or cloak. Also, something is always burning in the background, maybe a city. It occurs almost every night. I thought maybe you had some idea about what this might mean."

Ben sat quietly, lost in his thought. When he answered, it was a much sadder voice than before. "I feel that this may be part of your hidden past, or even your future. I cannot tell which. The answer lies not with me. Only you can seek out what this fortells. Possibly this could mean trouble for you and your team on the upcoming mission. But, I do not even trust myself enough to say whether it is certain. I am sorry, David, that I could not be of more help."

David's face wore a thoughtful frown as he stood up and looked at the elder. "By your leave then, Master". Quickly departing from the room, he headed to his quarters for a short nap.
-------
David jumped as the chime of his portable communicator woke him up. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he activated the micro screen built into the wrist computer. Codee's visage appeared, looking directly at him. "David, can you come up to my quarters in a minute? There are some things I would like to talk about."
Holding back the suprise of Codee's request, David answered with a curt "yes master", before shutting off the unit and scrambled to make himself presentable.
-------
For the second time in one day, David found himself in the quaters of a master elementalist. Unlike Ben's room, which had been dim and utilitarian, Codee's was a museum. Statues, weapons, and art covered the walls, shelves, and parts of the floor. The desk had what looked like an antique computer on it, with a large monitor covering one corner, and a keyboard and mouse in front. Codee was sitting amongst what looked like showcases full of technological antiquities. He motioned towards a comfortable looking chair across from him. Weaving between the piles and shelves, David took a seat. "You look tired, David" Codee said casually, offering David a drink from a table to his right.
David took a sip, then sat it down. "Actually, I just woke up." A smile escaped, and the tension in the room evaporated.
"I am giving your team a week off to rest from the extensive training we have forced on you. I hope it has not been to hard on you all."
David replied with a suprised grin."Hard yes, but we feel that we are up to the challenge. It is very gratifying that the council feels us capable of the task."
Codee's concerned look gave David a chill. "Let us hope that the mission will prove to be nothing but a wild goose chase. But enough of this. How do you like my quarters?"
"A bit wilder than master Bens, but not untasefully so. What is all this stuff?"
Codee stood up, and walked over to a case directly behind David. Opening it, he procured a small box. "This was a camera I picked up in the early 20th century. Our wrist computers took over its job of capturing images. It was so ancient, it used chemical reactions to form pictures on film. The digital age saw the end of many devices, and the beginning of more. He pointed over to the computer sitting on the desk. "That was the Elementalist's primary database before portable units and smaller storage were built. We had nearly a hundred servers dominating a whole floor of our headquarters just for information storage."
"And the weapons?"
"The weapons are to show the changes we have gone thorugh. Although the elementalists have always possessed saber technology, we also used weaponry of the ages to supplement them until replacements could be made. Power couplings were hard to come by during the reneissance era."
This brought a laugh from David.
"The reason I asked you here David, is to ask a favor of you." Codee pushed a button on his wrist computer, and a hologram of a planetary system appeared. "This is Draxian, a uninhabited world." The image zoomed to become a miniature planet. "It is a forested world, a perfect spot for a vacation. I would like you to go there and get away from the hustle of Alexia. Take a breather, you know? If nothing else, it could turn into a good time alone for you."
David stared in disbelief. "You want me to get out and enjoy life? How could I say no?"
"Codee shut off the projector and tabbed somrthing in on his screen. "I have reserved a delta class fighter for you and a droid companion, if you so wish. You can leave at any time. But before you go, I also want to give you something. You can get used to it during your trip."
With that, Codee strode to the wall, moved aside a small photo, and pressed a button. Instantly, a huge mural of a battle scene split in two, to reveal a masive shelf riddled with cylinders of all shapes, and sizes.
It was a wall covered in sabers.
-------
David had never seen so many sabers at once in his lifetime. They composed all shapes and sizes, ranging from the delicate to the rough. Codee stepped over to a small computer terminal in the center. After a short interlude, in which Codee typed in a command sequence, a light lit up one of the alcoves, in which a more stylish saber sat. Shutting down the terminal, Codee walked over and removed the saber. Instantly, the light turned off, and the panels returned to their original position, making the wall a seamless mural.
Codee motioned David over and handed him the saber. "Tell me how you like it. It belonged to a good friend, and I think it is time for you to recieve your inheritance."
David gingerly held the saber in his hand. It was a cylinder, as most hilts were, but for the fact it had small bands for a handgrip, as well as a ovular pommel end, with a belt clip on the end of that. The end had dual emitter covers, to protect hands from touching the hot energy blade. Suddenly, Codee's words caught up to David. "My inheritance?"
Codee guided David to the door as he said his final words. "This saber belonged to your father, Aaron". The door then slid shut, seperating the two.
-------
Codee was typing up a report when a communications officer paged him. As he activated the screen on his unit, he caught a brief glimpse of a long range scanner sweep. "What is it?"
The communications officer turned his wrist towards himself. He was older, but not enough to show on his complexion. "Sir, long range reports a number of Formationist vessels departing from the planet Merst. Unknown arrival point."
"Thank you officer", he mumbled as he began to think what Derek was up to now.
