Once again, David knelt and began to wait.
Almost all of the simulations required some amount of pacience,
but todays was far too long for David. He had been kneeling behind the
bush for over an hour, and his legs were cramping up.The team of elements
that was supposed to have come through the area twenty minutes ago had
not yet appeared. "More likely lost" David muttered as he shifted his weight
slightly, to alleviate the aches in his legs.
The course was one designed search and rescue operations in hostile
territory. A star of elements were to leave from the dropzone, collect an injured
elementalist, and evade the abushes while travelling to the pickup. Since the
exercise had been created, only three teams had ever not found the elementalist,
and 7 had not survived the ambush. Groups were given 2 hours to finish the course,
and it looked like they would be needing it.
David pulled his infrascope out of his elemental armor, searching the nearby
forest for the waylaid star. All he saw was the thermals of some small animals,
the ambush squad, anda speck in the distance that might have been the injured
elementalist, Jevon. Figuring in distance, that would mean at least another half-hour
before they got to the clearing. The aches in Davids legs reurned at the thought.
Suddenly,a hum emitted from behind David's neck.
"Drop the saber" came a young voice.
"You know Jaydon, most groups never think about ambushes. I doubt you are
really going to be this careful in the future. Master Jevon is still waiting for you."
"And if you had looked harder, you would ahve seen us build the fire as a diversion."
Jaydon retracted his saber, the red glow fading as the darkness of the forest
returned. Speaking into his headset, the rest of Jayons and Davids teams walked into
the clearing. Then they began the march to the dropship, where Codee watched them
remove their armor and take a break after the mission.
"He still has a long way to go," Codee thought.
