- Comments: IC 1396 is a very large area of emission nebula in southern Cepheus that is about 2 and a half degrees across and has a fairly low surface brightness. On the Northern edge of the nebula (left in the image) is Mu Cehpei AKA Herschel's Garnet Star, an M2 type star. To the upper right of the center of the nebula is Van den Bergh 142 a portion of dark and refection nebula that appears to protrude into the region from the outside. This is my first shot taken of this region and deserves more effort in the future. This particular shot was trailed due to flexure though it isn't easily noticeable at this resolution.
