- Comments: NGC 1499 is a large region of faint nebulosity in the constellation of Perseus. This nebula spans more than 3 degrees along its length and remarkably resembles the state for which it is named, California. While difficult to see visually it is possible to see the brighter portions under dark skies and with a hydrogen-beta filter. This object is more popular among photographers. The bright star just above the nebulosity in the image is Xi Persei.
