- Date: October 31, 2001
- Subject: M42 along with the Horsehead and Flame nebulas
- Exposure: 1, 45 min. shot enhanced in Adobe Photoshop
- Telescope: Megrez 80mm refractor @ f/5
- Mount: Losmandy GM-8
- Guiding: ST-4 autoguider
- Film: Kodak Elitechrome 200
- Comments: Initial success with the ST-4. This shot is the lower portion of Orion. To the right is the Orion complex of M42 and M43. NGC 1973 the Running Man Nebula is just to the left of M42. The nebulosity to the left is the Horsehead and Flame Nebulas. The constellation of Orion is quite easily among the most spectacular regions in the sky to photograph. The entire region is covered in low energy emission nebulas some of which can be seen between the Horsehead and M42 above.
