'Gretchon' - The Flying G
DonneRs' Tone Safari

This  is  a  guitar  I  designed  and  am  having  built - heres  some  pics along  the  way......

Well  the  basic  idea came from an  old  Gretsch  Bigsby  Tailpiece I had - I  noticed that the  cutout in  the  tail piece looked  like   the  outline  of  a  Flying  V  body   ....

... and  I  began to wonder  what  a  Gretsch Flying V  would  look  like.... Ive  never  seen  a  Flying  V  with  F-Holes or Filtertrons.... I  could  find  all  the  other  parts -  but  the  bound  F-holes in  the  body and  the  top and bottom  binding would  be  key to  getting the  Gretsch feel.  And  after  trying  unsuccessfully  to  find  someone to make the body ;  I  finally found  a custom luthier who  was  willing  to try  and  build  it !!!  ( Doug  Christensen in  Utah  alicia@nebonet.com if you  want a  real  custom body )

I  wanted  to  use  T.V. Jones Filtertrons (  www.tvjones.com ) and a  Bigsby to  really  give  it  a  Gretsch  vibe.....

....but the Bigsby didnt  quite  fit  ( I  had  originally thought of  using  that  Gretsch Bigsby and  mounting  it Lonnie Mack style...) .....

..... so since 'Gretchon'  is  a  Gibson / Gretsch  hybrid -  the  '58 V  tailpiece will look  right  at  home and  the  'thru-body' string ferrules  will  increase  sustain and tone.......   so  far  so  good ..  and the  saga   continues........
