The Napa Valley & Altadena Railroad is a garden railroad that I am currently building in my backyard. It is modeled on no particular prototype and adheres to no specific time period. Rather it is inspired by the narrow gauge railroads of the logging and mining eras in Northern California and Colorado. It will service the vineyards and wineries of the Napa Valley , hauling crops and transporting products to Southern California. It will also service a thriving tourist trade as the route of the Napa Valley Wine Train. Currently the first phase of track has been laid and a few structures built. Future structures will include a winery, passenger stations, an engine house and service yard. Structures are scratch built and, thanks to the mild Southern California climate, can be left out year round. The layout is controlled by an Aristo Craft Train Engineer which works great. Switches and blocks are controlled manually but the are plans to install a Del-Aire pneumatic control system that can be accessed from either a remote panel or walk around remote control. Rolling stock is mostly Aristo Craft and Bachmann, with a few scratch built cars. |
