FOREWORD

When Doug McIntosh asked me to write the foreword for his new book The War Within You, I was delighted to do so for a number of reasons. First, I have Doug to thank for the unique seminary training I received at Dallas Seminary. Doug was one of my professors at Carver Bible College in Atlanta where I did my undergrad work. Observing my passion for learning the Scriptures he challenged me to continue my biblical training by applying to Dallas Seminary. He even put up the application fee. I was admitted as the third African American and had the honor of becoming the first to earn a doctorate. The rest is history. Thanks Doug!

A second reason why I am honored to foreword this work is because of the profound impact his previous work had on my life. In his book Life's Greatest Journey he reminded me afresh that I am to look at my life from the perspective of a pilgrim and not a permanent resident. He helped refocus my type "A" ministry driven personality in the right direction. Thanks again, Doug!

A third reason that I am honored to foreword this book is because it is one of the best, most effective, spiritually illuminating works on victorious Christian living I have ever read. In this book Doug clearly defines the spiritual battle in which all believers are engaged. He balances biblical instruction with spiritual encouragement in a most unique way. Set against the backdrop of warfare, Doug confronts us with the realities of Christian life often glossed over today in the contemporary era of compromising Christianity. Doug defines the Christian life of discipleship for what it really is, a life of denial, not indulgence. This work makes the concept of settling for drive-thru Christianity (Mac-Christianity) totally unacceptable. I found my own soul getting somewhat ill at ease as I reviewed the manuscript. Thanks a lot, Doug!

A fourth reason I delight in this opportunity is because, as a pastor, Doug recognizes that people don't only need teaching, they also need hope. Without compromising one iota of God's truth, Doug's shepherd heart gives the reader hope. He not only condemns us for not meeting God's high and holy standard, he also helps us get there. When you finish reading this book you will know all is not lost and that God's marvelous grace can take you from where you are to where God wants you to be. Thanks a bunch, Doug!

If you are serious about your Christian walk, if you desire to experience authentic Christianity and the true life experience that only comes from the inside out, then this book is for you. It will open you up to experience God at the deepest spiritual level possible.

After you have completed your reading of The War Within You and its impact is fully felt in your life, I am confident that you will join me in a resounding "Can't thank you enough, Doug!"
